CLIMATE
The mild weather in the South West of
France has been attracting visitors for
generations. The appeal is the generous
amount of sunshine through the winter,
rainfall in the spring which nourishes
the verdant countryside, a warm
summer with long evenings and sublime
weather stretching through the Autumn,
well into November. The winters are
relatively short and mild. Gascony is
one of the few areas in France
benefiting from a mild climate that is
not affected by high prevailing winds.ACTIVITIES
The Pyrenees mountains are
acknowledged to offer some of the best
walking and climbing in the world.
They provide a Mecca for cyclists and
the fast developing ski resorts are
providing a real alternative to the Alpine
experience at far more accessible prices.
Due to its mild climate Pau provides
the venue for the national winter horse
racing season and is renowned for its
international three day events.
The area is speckled with immaculate
golf courses including the first course
built in main land Europe. Hunting
and fishing are two of the locals
favourite pastimes. The coast is
internationally renowned for its breakers
and holds the World Championship surf
tournament each year.
CULTURE
A mosaic of cultural events jostle for
their place on the annual calendar
where you will find some of Europe’s
liveliest festivals including; The Jazz in
Marciac, the Salsa Festival and the
Running of the Bulls in Vic Fezensac,
the Equestrian festival in Tarbes,
Vintage car racing in Pau, art and sports
in Maubourguet, Country and Western
in Mirande, and the Fete de Bayonne.
GASTRONOMY
The bountiful soils provide a staggering
choice of fine local produce which is set
out either beneath the medieval
colonnades or in the market squares.
This same produce finds its way into
the local bars and restaurants where a
carefully prepared three course meal can
still be found for around 11 Euros. The
area boasts some of France’s most
renowned restaurants and also produces
many fine wines. Madiran and Jurancon
are currently enjoying a cult status
within France.

The Gascons are renowned for their
gregarious nature and go out of their
way to make new homeowners feel
comfortable and welcome in their new
environment. We often are told of the
surprise from our clients when fresh
eggs or wild mushrooms are left on their
doorstep by their neighbours.
