The HARAS is situated in an abbey which was founded by monks of the Benedictine order in the 8th Century. The original abbey was destroyed and rebuilt in the 10th Century on the present site. Between the 12th Century and the time of the French Revolution, the monastery was inhabited and developed by Monks of Prémontré's order. Since the revolution the estate has remained in private ownership and the existing Haras was established in 1941.

 

The 16th century “portique” with iron gates opens onto a formal courtyard. This “Court of Honour” is enclosed by the main buildings and corniced by four towers.

The main entrance opens onto a magnificent entrance hall with stone staircase and wrought iron balustrade.

This opens out onto a large reception room (70m²) with marble regency fireplace and ornate brass insert finely worked with a design of cornucopias

. The floor is laid with large flagstones. This room opens onto a second reception (3Om2) and this, in turn leads through to the sitting room and dining room which communicate through sliding doors. The kitchen is situated in the South wing along with the utility rooms.

These rooms open out onto a well established wooded park of 5 ha which wraps around the house. To the rear of the entrance hall lays the original cloisters which run 40 m along the back of the main house down to the old abbey.

The bedrooms are situated on the upper level. The master apartment consists of bedroom, study, bathroom and dressing room. The guest suite comprises study, bedroom and bathroom.

Bishops suite, three additional bedrooms and 1 further bathroom.

The monks residence is situated in the East wing and consists of monks kitchen with magnificent stone fireplace, a sitting room, three bedrooms and bathroom.

 

The grounds extend to 182ha of which 150ha are arable land. There is a canal which runs the length of the property and the Adour river borders the farm for 3.5kms. There is an independent mill house and manager’s farmhouse with bovine stabling and agricultural sheds.

There is a track of 1250m and 70 horse boxes with automatic watering.  There are facilities for foaling and training.
